In Judah the Almighty's known, (Almighty there by wonders shown,) His name is great in Israel; His house of prayer in Salem stands; The majesty that heaven commands in Zion condescends to dwell. He broke the flashing arrows there, destroyed their weapons, sword and spear, For slain the mighty army lay; then Zion's fame on earth is spread, Of greater glory, greater dread, than hills where lions take their prey. Those valiant chiefs that came for spoil, themselves met there a shameful foil; Securely down to sleep, they lay: they wake no more; their stoutest band Could not lift a resisting hand against the Lord upon that day. When Jacob's God began to frown, the horse and riders overthrown Together slept in endless night. When You, whom earth and heaven fear, Do once with wrathful look appear, can mortals stand within Your sight? From heaven on high earth heard its doom; it stilled with fear, when You did come To save the humble and the poor: The wrath of man shall yield You praise; their last attempts but serve to raise the triumphs of our mighty Lord. Vow to the Lord, you nations; bring your gifts to the eternal King.; To Him due reverence you shall pay: the proudest kings that here do dwell; And earthly rulers terrible, will fear the Lord upon His day. —from A New Version of the Psalm of David, 1696, alt. 2021

O Jehovah, the king in Your strength shall be glad, and shall in Your salvation rejoice; For You freely have given each wish his heart had, You at-tend to the cries of his voice. All the blessings he craved You did graciously give, with the purest of gold he is crowned. When he asked of You life, You Have made him to live,
while the ages shall circle around. Through salvation from You is his fame widely spread, for the majesty You did impart O most blessed forever the King has been made,
and Your presence has gladdened his heart. For the king in the name of Jehovah Most High did unwavering confidence place; Through His great lovingkindness He still will rely
 on the Highest, and stand by His grace. You will stretch forth Your hand on the heads of Your foes, on Your haters a right hand of power, Then Your wrath shall around them like furnace flames close;
for Jehovah's own wrath shall devour. From the earth shall their race be consumed and destroyed, and their offspring forever shall fail; By the evil they plotted, the schemes they employed.
they shall never against You prevail. You will turn back your foes; You will put them to flight, when Your arrows are aimed at their face. Be exalted Jehovah, In strength and in might; we will sing of Your power and grace. —from The Psalter, 1898, alt. 2021

By Babylon’s great riverside we captive peoples sat and wept; While over all our hearts the tide of Zion’s memories had swept. On weeping willows, drooping low, our silent, joyless harps we hung; Their strings were broken, tuned with woe, when with such awful grief they sung. For there our captors asked for songs; tormenting us, they asked for praise; Requiring songs that happy throngs on Zion had been known to raise. But how can we, in foreign land, Jehovah’s songs be made to sing? If I forget you, let this hand lose all its skill upon the string. If I do not remember you, forget my songs, let language cease, If I should place another joy above my care for Zion’s peace. Remember Lord, how they laid bare our home upon that dreadful day; Though wicked Edom now seems fair, her sons are doomed to pass away. Remember Lord, the dreadful day of our land’s fall and bitter woe, How happy he who shall repay the cruel hatred of her foe. —from Lyrics from the Psalter, 1907 and The Psalter, 1912, alt. 2021
4.
Fret not yourself when evil seems to prosper in the land, Nor when the wicked plots and schemes against the righteous man. Dwell faithfully, and trust God will your heart's desires fulfill. And though he thinks he's rooted fast, unyielding like a tree, The wicked one will fade like grass, like smoke caught in a breeze. His bow will break, his sword will fail; and justice will prevail. Be still before the Lord and wait; delight in His commands. And He shall keep your pathway straight, uphold you with His hand. A stronghold sure in troubled days, the Lord His people saves. I have not seen, in youth or age, the righteous man decrease. The Lord provides a heritage, a future full of peace. He is a refuge evermore, for all who trust the Lord. —Elizabeth Dowdell, 2020

Lord, hear my voice, my prayer attend, from earth's remotest bound I send, My broken-hearted cry. When troubles fill my fainting breast, then lead me on the rock to rest, The rock higher than I. In You my soul has shelter found, and You have been from foes around, The tower of my defense. My home shall your pavilion be; and underneath Your wings I'll flee, To find deliverance. When troubles fill my fainting breast, then lead me on the rock to rest, The rock higher than I. For You, O Lord, my vows have heard, on me their heritage conferred, That fear Your holy name. Long life You to Your servant give, through generations he shall live, From age to age the same. Before the Lord shall he abide; oh, give him truth, and grace provide, To guard him in the way. So I Your praises will make known, and humbly bending at Your throne, My vows will daily pay. —from The Psalter with Music, 1900, alt. 2022
6.
To the Lord I will sing, for His glorious victory; the horse and the rider He has thrown into the sea. The Lord is my strength and my song, salvation He brings to me; My father's God, He is my god and I will exalt and praise. The Lord is a man of war; Jehovah is His name. For Pharaoh and all of his host He cast them into the sea, The floods went up; and in the depths their chariots sank like stones. Your hand shows Your glorious power to crush Your enemies. The enemy vowed to pursue, to ruin, to rape, to spoil; The sea rose up and covered them; in water they sank like lead. O who is like You, my Lord, in perfect holiness? You led to Your holy abode the people whom You redeemed; The nations heard; they tremble still; all Canaan shall melt away. On them shall great terror fall till all Your folk pass by. You plant them on Your holy hill, the mountain which You have made, Established there by your right hand forever with You they’ll reign; Majestic are all Your deeds, the wonders of Your hand. —based on Exodus 15:1-21, Henry C. Haffner, 2022
7.
The Lord I will at all times bless; with praise my mouth employ; My soul shall in Jehovah boast, the humble hear with joy. O let us magnify the Lord, exalt His name with me. Look up to Him, and so your faces radiant shall be. Taste and see that the Lord is good; take refuge in His blessing Fear Him, you saints: those who fear the Lord lack no good thing. O children, come, and gather round for wisdom you should hear; I’ll teach you how to understand and seek the Lord with fear. Restrain your lips from speaking lies, control your foolish tongue. Depart from ill, do good, seek peace, so shall your days be long. The troubles that afflict the just in number many be; but God delivers from them all the righteous He sets free. Your bones He carefully will keep, whatever shall befall, for not so much as one of them can be broken at all. The righteous cry unto the Lord salvation He imparts; The Lord is ever near to them who ache from broken hearts. Amen. —from The Psalter With Music, 1900, alt. 2021
8.
Not unto us, not us O Lord but to Your holy name accord The glory, which for it alone His mercy and His truth have won. Why should the heathen nations say, “Where is the God these men obey?” Our God above in heaven dwells; Our God shall do whate'er He wills. The idols made of silver and gold, are works which human hands shall mold— A mouth they have, yet silent be, and eyes they have, yet cannot see; No sound of words, no tuneful note will form within their voiceless throat. Like them shall those that make them be, and all that trust them foolishly. God, mindful of His own, will bless, bless Aaron's house and Israel's race; On all His saints, both great and small may His increasing blessings fall. Both you and yours shall taste the store of Him who made the earth of yore. The heavens are the Lord’s indeed; but earth He’s given to man's seed. The dead His praises cannot show, nor they that down to silence go: But we, yes we, will bless the Lord; from this time forth and evermore. —from Lyra Regis, 1885, alt. 2022
9.
Do you decree, O earthly gods, with words of righteousness? Do you, who judge the sons of men, speak forth in uprightness? No, even now your hearts are filled with wickedness and hurt; And from your hands great violence goes out upon the earth. The wicked are estranged from birth, departing from the way; And speaking lies with serpent’s tongues, they poison, spoil, and slay. God break the teeth within their mouth, O hear me when I call; My Lord, tear out the horrid fangs of these young lions all. The righteous shall rejoice to see God’s vengeance coming in; The righteous man shall wash his feet in blood of wicked men. Then all shall say that righteous folk reward shall never miss: And surely here upon the earth a God to judge there is. —from The Psalter With Music, 1900, alt. 2021
10.
Now to the holy city the faithful gather home; To Zion’s mount of glory with songs of joy they come. Jerusalem the golden, Jerusalem the free, With joyful hearts and voices the ransomed come to thee. Now eye to eye beholding the way-marks on the road, All bound in love together, they’re coming home to God: One mind and mouth possessing, they speak with one accord, And in the heights of Zion they shout and praise the Lord. Sing glory to the Savior, high over all the world; On Zion’s heights forever His banner is unfurled. God’s church can be no longer obscured from human sight; For see, on yonder mountain, a city filled with light! No longer Babel’s bondage the bride of Christ can hold; God’s children now are holy, and free from Babel’s fold: For it is fallen, fallen, and it shall rise no more; We cling alone to Jesus, as did the saints of yore. —Thomas Nelson, 1907

The Lord ever hear you when troubles are near; The name of our God keep you safe from all fear. The Lord send you help; from His temple proclaim That He’ll out of Zion your weakness sustain. May He all the gifts of your love keep in mind, And all of your offerings acceptable find; May He ever grant you the wish of your heart, Fulfill all your yearning, and wisdom impart. For joy in salvation we'll shout to His praise: In God’s holy name all our banners we’ll raise. The Lord who has saved be your confidence still, And all your petitions in mercy fulfill. Some trust in their chariots prepared for the fray, And some in their horses the foe to dismay, But we will make mention of one only name; The Lord God almighty, we’ll ever acclaim. Our foes are bowed down and are fallen at length, While we have arisen and stand in Your strength. O, Lord save the king! For You rule over all; Give blessing and answer whenever we call! —from Lyrics from the Psalter, 1907, alt. 2021
